Canada Booth: Thank You!

We would like to thank the following people for making the Canada Booth a success at the International Festival again this year.

We’re grateful to the Canadian Consulate in Atlanta for their support, notably Peter Taylor and Scott Cutler who dropped by on Thursday to check out the installation and drop off some goodies.

We’re are also much indebted to Joe Breschi, Head Coach Men’s Lacrosse, and Matthew Hudson, Director of Lacrosse Operations, both at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for lending us a lacrosse stick and balls.  Lots of people were very excited about this!

Similarly, we are grateful to Sue Mitchell for the curling equipment–it was a big hit!

As well as to Gary O’Neill for the basketball and hockey equipment. And Paul Meade for lending us the Maple Leafs puck and the loonie and toonie.

Last, but certainly not least, a big huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers— our booth veterans  Caroline, Dominique, Gary, Greg, Martin, Shirley and Sue and new recruits Alyssa, Emilie, Geoff,  Jen, Joe Lynda, Paul and Sharon .  We could not have done it without you!

A MILLION THANKS TO ALL!

Canada Booth: Gone! (Day 3)

Last day at the International Festival. The Canada Booth was a great success again this year with visitors praising our display about sports and games. If you participated in the festival–either as a host or a visitor–and you have photos you would like to share with us, please send them along! (Simply use the email on our contact page.)

We’re planning on participating in the International Festival again next year; send us a note if you’re interested in joining the fun!

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who hosted the Booth today: Paul, Sharon, Joe, Shirley, Gary and Caroline.

Canada Booth: Going! (Day 2)

Second day at the International Festival and the Canada Booth is still a destination for visitors.  Having great fun telling them that James Naismith was Canadian and that we totally rock at curling! Love impressing them with the fact that we have two national sports–hockey (winter) and lacrosse (summer).  Nice to see jaws drop when they realize that their favourite board game or video game was invented by a Canadian or produced in Canada!

Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers for their energy and cheerfulness: Gary, Paul; Caroline, Geoff, Alyssa, Emilie, Martin and Greg.

Canada Booth: Go! (Day 1)

The Canada Booth is open for business and this morning we offered visitors our Canadian interpretation of the Festival theme, Games from Around the World. We were completely mobbed (there is no other word) by the hoard of children who descended upon us between 10am and 1:30pm (approximately 3000 children were expected). Trying to enter the Booth was like going through customs… you practically had to wait in line!

Here are a few pictures of today’s Booth activities.

Thanks you to Caroline, Gary,  Jen, Paul, Lynda, Sue and Dominique for hosting the Booth today. Your time, smiles and enthusiasm are much appreciated.

Canada Booth: Get set!

Team Canada worked hard this afternoon to set up the Booth. Here are a few shots of the preparations. We also had a wonderful visit: Peter Taylor from the Canadian Consulate in Atlanta and Scott Cutler, Honorary Consul of Canada in Raleigh dropped by just as we put the finishing touches.

We are most grateful to Peter, Scott and everyone at the Consulate for their generous support.

Canada Booth: On your mark!

Team Canada is getting ready for the installation of the Booth at the International Festival!  Travel the world in one weekend and visit the Canada Cultural Booth on October 14-16 at the Raleigh Convention Center. There is lots to do!
