Beer and Poutine Galore!

Canucks from the Triangle met yesterday at Bottledog Bites and Brews in Cary for CanSouth’s Poutine and Beer Tasting.

We sampled four fancy poutines paired with four local beers. Pretty much everybody agreed that the poutine was delicious, especially the one topped with Montreal smoked meat.  The Coolcumber fruit beer from Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville, which was paired with the Mexican poutine, was by far the favourite.

Thanks to everyone for hanging out with us and a huge thank you to CanSouth’s Social Media volunteer for organizing this fun and tasty event!

International Festival 2017

DSCN8113The theme for this year’s international festival has been announced and it is HEROES FROM AROUND THE WORLD.

Canada has a wealth of cultural, historic, present-day and fictional heroes, but we want to hear from you about who we should feature at the Canada booth!

In March, we featured a few of Canada’s great and influential women, like Roberta Bondar (the first female Canadian astronaut) and author Lucy Maud Montgomery.  Read more here:

Then, we filled you in on some Canadian superheroes like well-known X-Man Wolverine, anti-hero Deadpool and the slightly less famous but still formidable Captain Canuck:

Now, let us know who your favorite Canadian hero is! Share your thoughts with us on Facebook or via email.

Canada Day 2017

July is quickly approaching and that means we’re getting excited about celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary! Canada Day 2017 will be one for the history books and we want to know how you plan to celebrate.  Are you heading up North, or are you hoping to find some fellow Canadians to celebrate with right here in the Triangle?  If you’re going to be in town, let us know on our Facebook event so we can start planning (and make sure there’s enough Labatt’s on hand 😉).  If you’re heading out of town, be sure to share some photos with us!

Here’s some additional information on how to participate and where to celebrate in Canada:

Leafs game photos

It’s always interesting when the Maple Leafs come to town as Coach Babcock and Coach Peters are close friends. The Leafs and Hurricanes also have some of the best rookies on their teams this year; Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner and William Nylander (Leafs), and Sebastian Aho (Canes).

The Leafs will probably make the playoffs this year with the Canes having to wait until next year. Both teams wanted to demonstrate their talents on the ice, which led to a solid and spirited hockey game. Even though the Canes led Toronto twice in the game, it went into overtime. In the early minutes of OT, the Canes had a few chances to put the puck behind Curtis McElhinney, but they failed to get fresh legs on the ice. Canes’ Victor Rask lost the puck to Matthews, giving possession to Morgan Reilly, who scored the game winning goal.

Photos from the game were provided by the CanSouth sports correspondent and event photographer.
