M.C. Escher + Canada

If you are looking for an excuse—a Canadian one at that—to go see the exhibition The Worlds of M.C. Escher at the North Carolina Museum of Art, you’ve found one!

Did you know that George, one of the sons of celebrated Dutch graphic artist Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898 -1972), lives in Nova Scotia, Canada?

Furthermore, in the 1980s and 1990s, George Escher donated to the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa numerous lithographs, illustrations and wood cuts made by his father. This makes the NGC one of the very few institutional repositories of Escher works in the world. There are a couple of loans from the NGC on view at the NCMA. Take the family to go look for them over the holidays… and lose yourself in the mesmerizing Worlds of M.C. Escher.

Visit the NCMA website for details.

CanSouth has a new president

On December 6, Janice Mrkonjic announced at the Holiday Brunch that she was stepping down as CanSouth President because she is leaving North Carolina.  Caroline Rocheleau, chair of the Canada Cultural Booth, has become the new President.

The previously vacant position of Vice President has been filled by Gary O’Neill, co-chair of the Canada Cultural Booth.

Farewell to Janice and her husband Greg. Congratulations to Caroline and Gary. Thank you to the rest of the Leadership Team volunteers for staying on to bring  a wonderful selection of activities to Canadians across The Triangle.

Game night photos: Canadiens (Dec 5)

CanSouth’s sports correspondent loudly cheered for the Habs (his home team) on Saturday, although that did not stop the Canes from beating the best team in the Eastern Division 3-2. CanSouth’s event photographer (also a Habs fan) attended this roller-coaster game as well and these are just a handful of the numerous action shots they got between the two of them.

CanSouth’s event photographer also sent along awesome close-ups of our boys from Montreal.
